The JR Universal pass is valid for almost any train on JR Group lines throughout the country. If you want flexibility, this is the pass for you.

Japan Rail Pass is a special discount ticket for travelers visiting Japan from foreign countries for sight-seeing purpose only. To be eligible to purchace a Japan Rail Pass you must meet one of the following two conditions.

The Japan Rail Pass is valid for JR trains, barring one shinkansen train, JR buses and one JR ferry.

■You must purchace an Exchange order from authorized sales office before you depart US. After you arrive in Japan, you turn in the Exchange order to receive your Japan Rail Pass at an applicable JR station that has a Japan Rail Pass exchange office.
■Exchanging the voucher for the actual Pass is a relatively simple task. Take your Pass voucher to one of the exchange centers, either a Travel Service Center or a Ticket Office, fill in an application form (found at the exchange center), and submit it with your voucher and passport. After verifying your name, pass type, and designated starting date, the center will issue you an actual Japan Rail Pass. (Vouchers cannot be used to travel on JR Lines.)
■The validity period of Japan Rail Pass is the consecutive (7)seven,(14)fourteen,(21)twenty-one days beginning on the date the Pass is first used. The first date of validity period is designates at the time of exchange.Voucher must be exchanged for actual passes within 3months from the date the voucher was issued. Once pass'starting date has been set, it cannot be changed.
■If a voucher has not been exchanged for the actual Pass, it may be refunded through the distributor office through which it was purchased, within one year of the date of issue. A 20% handling fee may be applicable.

■Shinkansen and most limited express and ordinary express trains have reserved Green Car seats and both reserved and nonreserved ordinary car seats.A non-reserved seat can be used simply by showing your Japan Rail Pass.
■Seat reservations can be made without additional payment. To make a reservation go to any Travel Service Center or a Reservation Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) at a JR station, or to the sales office of a JR-asssociated travel agency. Just show your PASS, and obtain your reserved seat ticket before boarding.

There are two types of JR EAST PASS: Green (for superior-class Green cars) and Ordinary. Each of these types is available as a 5-day, a 10-day, a Flexible 4-day Pass.

Valid for travel on all railway lines of JR East.

■You must show your passport at the time of Pass exchange in Japan. Along with your passport, you must show the "Electronic Ticket Itinerary" or "Reference" (Reservation number) you received from your travel agent.
■The validity period of JR East Pass is the consecutive (5)five,(10)Ten days beginning on the date the Pass is first used. Flexible 4-day Pass can be usable 4 consecutive or non-consecutive days within one month from the date the pass was issued. The first date of validity period is designates at the time of exchange.Voucher must be exchanged for actual passes within 3months from the date the voucher was issued. Once pass'starting date has been set, it cannot be changed.

The Kyushu Rail Pass is the perfect ticket for touring through Kyushu. You can ride on JR Kyushu's fast Tsubame and Sonic limited express trains as many times as you like, and get on and off any Kyushu Railway Company train freely.

Valid for travel on all railway lines of JR East.
